Air Force officer and scientist arrested in international drug bust

Bengaluru, Oct 5 (IBNS) : An Indian Air Force (IAF) officer and a scientist have been arrested and Rs.230 crore worth of amphetamine seized after multi-state raids by anti-narcotics sleuths that busted an international racket dealing in drugs, reports said.

The Air Force Wing Commander was caught in Nanded in Maharashtra on Tuesday after being tracked down for weeks by the Narcotics Control Bureau and the Air Force intelligence wing.

The Air Force officer, believed to be the main supplier of drugs, was posted in the Directorate of Information Technology in Delhi.

According to reports, more  officers are under surveillance.

Earlier, Venkat Rama Rao, a research scientist, was arrested in Bengaluru. He was said to be an old friend of the Air Force officer.

Reports said Hyderabad was the base where amphetamines, which are used in several party drugs like Ecstacy,were being manufactured.

The drugs were allegedly trafficked mainly to countries like Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia.
