Rohit Vemula not a dalit, ended life due to frustration: probe panel tells HRD ministry
Chaired by retired judge AK Roopanwal, the report states that Vemula's mother chose to be a dalit to reap benefits from the schemes provided by the government for the backward communities.
The same report also highlighted that Vemula committed suicide owing to personal problems and not due to expulsion as stated earlier.
The retired judge was also quoted in the media as saying that the decision to expel him from the Hyderabad University, which came under scanner post the incident, was right and logical.
Earlier it was said that former HRD Minister Smriti Irani and MP Bandaru Dattatreya played a role in Vemula's expulsion from the campus, which the report dismissed.
