Apex court asks rape-accused Raj Ballabh Yadav why his bail should not be cancelled

Patna, Oct 7 (The Bihar Post/IBNS): The Supreme Court on Friday served notice on rape-accused RJD lawmaker Raj Ballabh Yadav asking him to reply why his bail should not be cancelled.

Raj Ballabh, who represents Nawada seat in Bihar assembly, has been asked to file his reply by October 17 when the matter will be heard in the court.

The court issued the notice while hearing a bail cancellation petition filed by the Bihar government.

The government moved the apex court on Monday barely hours after Raj Bhallah Yadav came out of jail after being granted bail by the Patna high court.

In its petition, the state government said the co-accused in the rape case has not been granted bail despite being a woman while Yadav was given bail although he is the main accused, reports said.

Yadav, a RJD lawmaker, is accused of luring a teenaged girl to his residence in Nawada district and raping her in February this year.

Yadav went into hiding soon after the case was registered against him. After much police pressure, he surrendered in a local court in March this year and sent to jail.

Since then he was lodged in the local Biharshari jail in Nalanda district.

On Thursday, Raj Ballabh had met RJD president Lalu Prasad in Patna.
