Buddhist monks from 36 countries pray at Bodh Gaya for end of "terrorism"

Patna, Oct 7 (The Bihar Post/IBNS): As the world lives under the shadow of terrorist threats, hundreds of Buddhists from 36 Buddhist countries visited Mahabodhi Temple at Bodh Gaya in Bihar and offered prayers for world peace.

Authorities said more than 300 delegates from as many as 36 Buddhist countries offered prayers for world peace and “end of terrorism”, chanting Buddhist text sutras.

The Buddhists also meditated under the holy Bodhi tree sitting under which Buddha had got enlightenment in the 6th century BC and spread the message of “ahimsa” (non-violence).

“The preaching of Buddha is relevant today and the Buddhist guests prayed for world peace,” Mahabodhi temple’s chief priest Bhante Chalinda told the media today.

One of the delegates said the world should join together to fight terrorism.

“The world should join together to unitedly fight terrorism as it is posing serious threats to world peace,” said PR Barua, a retired police official from Bangladesh who was part of the delegation.

The prayers assumes significance in the light of recent terrorists attacks in India and Indian Army’s move to carry out surgical attacks across the LoC in Pakistan-Occupied-Kashmir last week.
