Bhubaneswar hospital fire: Police arrest superintendent, 3 others

Bhubaneswar, Oct 18 (IBNS): A day after the massive fire, which broke out at a hospital in Odisha's Bhubaneswar city on Monday claimed 20 lives, the hospital's medical superintendent and three others have been arrested, media reports said.

Three employees of the Bhubaneswar's SUM Hospital have also been suspended by the authorities.

The massive fire at the hospital left 100 others injured.

Patients were evacuated and shifted to other hospitals in the city.

Sources told The Times of India that the fire started around 7.30 pm in the dialysis ward on the second floor of the hospital.

Fire fighters later brought the firer under control.

Odisha Chief Minister  Naveen Patnaik earlier in the day said he has ordered Revenue Divisional commissioner to enquire in to the incident.

"Visited Capital hospital to oversee treatment of evacuated patients from fire in private hospital in Bhubaneswar; condole loss of lives," the Chief Minister tweeted.

"Ordered Revenue Divisional commissioner to enquire in to this very tragic incident 2/2," he said.

He also spoke to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over the mishap.
