Kolkata/Asansol, Oct 19 (IBNS): Singer-turned-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Babul Supriyo was allegedly assaulted by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters at Asansol BNR More area in West Bengal's Burdwan district on Wednesday, local media reports said.

According to reports, few BJP activists went to hold demonstration in front of TMC minister Malay Ghatak's residence in Asansol in the afternoon, when they were allegedly beaten up by a large number of TMC supporters.

Following the incident, Union Minister Babul Supriyo rushed to the spot and when he was going to lodge complaint in local police station, several TMC activists staged agitation, stopping his convoy.

An unidentified person also threw brick aiming at Babul, which hit on his chest, Babul Supriyo alleged.

"I was hit by a brick, thrown by TMC activists, today and that moment was caught on tape by media personnel, present there," he said.

However, he later lodged a complaint at Asansol South Police Station.

Meanwhile, local leaders of the ruling party denied the allegation and claimed that the incident was an outcome of BJP's infighting.
