New Delhi, Nov 4 (IBNS): The central government has cancelled the licences of more than 11,000 non-government organisations (NGOs) for not submitting documents on time under the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA), according to media reports on Friday.

The Union Home Ministry said that these NGOs failed to renew by the stipulated deadline of June 30, 2016.

The validity of the licence of these NGOs were first extended to Sep 30 and then to Oct 31 as per a Ministry order dated Mar 29, 2016.

However, the NGOs were mandated to submit their applications for renewal by Jun 30, 2016.

On Thursday, the Ministry published a list of all the NGOs who had failed to meet the Jun 30 deadline, media reported.

These NGOs are not entitled to receive foreign funds from Nov 1.
