Srinagar, Nov 5 (IBNS): A suspected militant was killed and a soldier was injured in an encounter between militants and security forces at a village in Shopian district of south Kashmir, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred after a search operation was launched in the village, police said.

After getting information about the presence of four militants in the area, the police, along with army, cordoned off Dobjan village, 60 kms from summer capital Srinagar, a police official said.

When security forces moved to the target house, suspected militants resorted to firing and attempted to escape from the house.

During retaliation firing, one militant was killed and a soldier was injured, an officer said.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir police officer told IBNS that one local Hizbul Mujhaideen militant Waseem Ahmad Khanday was killed during the encounter.

Waseem was involved in snatching a rifle from the residence of Communist party leader Abdul Rehman Tukroo in the district recently.
