New Delhi, Nov 9 (IBNS): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called newly elected US President Donald Trump and congratulated him for winning the high-profile polls on Wednesday.

"Continuing to build on the bedrock of strong Indo-US relations. PM spoke just now to @realDonaldTrump to congratulate him on his election," MEA spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

"PM conveyed his best wishes & the two leaders looked forward to working closely to take the #IndiaUS strategic partnership to a new height," he said.

Upsetting several equations and creating history, businessman-turned-politician Donald Trump registered a remarkable victory over his Democrat rival Hillary Clinton to be elected as the 45th President of the US on Wednesday.
