APSC Job Scam: Rakesh Paul sent to 14 days judicial custody

Guwahati, Nov 18 (IBNS): A local court in Assam’s Kamrup (Metro) district on Friday sent Assam Public Service Commission (APSC)’s arrested Chairman Rakesh Paul to 14 days judicial custody.

Rakesh Paul was arrested by arrested by police on Nov 4 in connection with job scam under APSC.


He was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Guwahati on Friday.

Court sent Paul to 14 days judicial custody and asked police to produce him in the same court on Dec 3 next.

On the other hand, police seized Rs 9.50 lakh cash and several life insurance policies from the house of Samedur Rahman, one of member of APSC who was arrested on November 9 in connection with the same scam.

Police also arrested APSC’s Assistant Examination Controller Pabitra Koibatra from his residence at Lisubagan area near Hengerabari in the city on Nov 12.

Earlier Dibrugarh police arrested Mabud Ali Choudhury the PSO of Samedur Rahman in connection with the job scam.

Police also arrested an enginerr from Upper Assam’s Dibrugarh district after police caught him red handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10 lakh from a dentist to appint in the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) on October 27.

The arrested engineer was identified as Naba Kumar Patir and he is an assistant engineer of Town and Country Planning department of Assam government posted at Dibrugarh town.

Meanwhile, police had raided at the APSC office last night and seized several vital documents and sealed two rooms of the office.
