New Delhi, Nov 26 (IBNS): President Pranab Mukherjee condoled the death of former Cuban President Fidel Castro, who breathed his last on Saturday.

Calling him a friend of India, the President's tweet read, "Heartfelt condolences on sad demise of Cuba's revolutionary leader, former President & friend of India, Fidel Castro #PresidentMukherjee"

Communism poster boy for decades, Castro was 90 years old.

Throughout his life he received polarising reviews with his admirers praising him for giving back the country to the people while others criticised him for brutal way of supressing opposition.

He ruled for almost five decades, before handing reigns to his brother Raul.
