Nitish really deserves praise for supporting currency ban, says Ram Vilas Paswan

Patna, Nov 27 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan on Sunday lauded Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar for supporting currency ban.

“Nitish Kumar really deserves praise for going out of the way to support currency ban,” Paswan told the local media.

He mocked the people opposing the currency ban and suggested the RJD and the Congress to break alliance if they had problems with the JD-U.

The comments come a day after the ruling Janata Dal United (JD-U) in Bihar headed by chief minister came out in strong support of the Narendra Modi government at the Centre over the issue amid ongoing protests by the opposition over scrapping of high value currency notes,

The JD-U not only announced its whole-hearted support to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over note ban but also declared to stay away from any agitation or protests against the note ban.

The party made this announcement after a high-level meeting with top leaders chaired by chief minister Kumar. The meeting was held at the official residence of the chief minister.

“The Centre’s decision to ban high value currency notes is correct and the JD-U fully supports the note ban since this is in national interest,” a senior JD-U leader was quoted as telling a local TV news channel today.

“The JD-U will also be staying away from any kind of agitations/protests over the currency ban,” the spokesman added.

The JD-U’s move to support the Narendra Modi government over the issue assumes much significance given the fact that almost all opposition parties have been opposing the currency ban.

Even the JD-U’s own alliance partners in the government, such as, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) headed by Lalu Prasad and the Congress led by Sonia Gandhi, have strongly opposed the move and asked the government to roll back its decision.

The opposition parties in India, it may be noted here, have given a call for nation-wide shutdown on November 28 to protest the demonetization drive.
