Assam CM directs speedy completion of repair work of state roads

Guwahati, Dec 6 (IBNS): Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Tuesday directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to start the repair work of the roads of the state within one week.

Chairing a review meeting of the department at the conference hall  at CM Secretariat Sonowal said that 250 crore rupees have already been released for the work and the process for inviting tenders for repair work has already been completed.    

The Assam CM also directed the PWD to complete the repair work of all the roads within January so that another 300 crore rupees earmarked for the schemes can be fully utilised.

Saying that an amount of rupees 299 crore has already been released by the Central Government to build a 364 kilometre road under PMGSY, Sonowal directed to cover all roads of the state under PMGSY scheme.

Stating that no anomaly would be tolerated in road construction Sonowal said that those contractors who have done substandard work and those who have failed to complete work in a time bound manner would be blacklisted.

Sonowal also directed to complete the repair work of the Silchar –Karimganj – Hailakandi Road at an early date and said that he himself would travel by the road to see the pace of the repair work.

He also instructed the top officials of the department to review the pace of repair work on a daily basis.
