Patna, Dec 7 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Authorities in Bihar have beefed up security in and around the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya, holiest of the holy shrine for Buddhists across the globe, in view of an increase in tourist arrivals.

The authorities have banned carrying mobile phones as well as any kind of bags inside the temple.

“We have banned carrying any electronic gadgets in the temple premises and have ordered the security personnel to be more vigilant keeping in view the expected crowd of the tourists,” a senior local official Ravi Shankar Prasad has told the local media.

The temple figures among the list of UNESCO World Heritage Site had faced attacks from terrorists earlier.

The Buddhist shrine escaped major attacks in July 2013 after as many as nine serial blasts rocked the temple complex.

The pilgrimage town has witnessed an unusual increase in number of tourists. Their number is  expected to rise further in view of the upcoming Kalchakra puja .

Buddhist spiritual leader the Dalai Lama is expected to attend the Kalchakra puja to start next month.

Authorities expect the arrival of more than 200,000 Buddhist monks and devotees to join this special prayer.
