Four persons arrested with Rs 20 lakh new notes in Guwahati

Guwahati, Dec 10 (IBNS) : At least four persons were arrested with Rs 20 lakh new notes by police from Guwahati on Friday night who allegedly being involved in exchanging new currencies of Rs 2000 with scraping notes, police said on Saturday.

Guwahati City Police Commissioner Hiren Nath said that following a tip-off Hatigaon police had launched operation at Hatigaon area and recovered an amount of Rs 20 lakh in the denomination of Rs 2000 from a house and arrested four persons.

“When we raided the house, three persons are waiting for exchanging the new denomination of Rs 2000 with scraping notes,” Hiren Nath said.

The arrested persons were identified as Sultan Choudhury, Amit Jain, Nitin Jain and Ikbal Hussain.

The persons had tried to exchange the amount with Rs 26 lakh in old currencies from another
