Mamata Banerjee remembers martyrs of 2001 Parliament attack

Kolkata, Dec 13 (IBNS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday remembered the martyrs who laid down their lives protecting the Parliament on Dec 13, 2001.

Remembering them, the Chief Minister tweeted: "Salute the martyrs who bravely laid down their lives protecting Parliament on 13 Dec 2001.May God grant strength to their families.Jai Hind."

On Dec 13, 2001, terrorists, allegedly belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (Let) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), attacked the Indian Parliament in New Delhi.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister then.

Although the attack was foiled, six Delhi Police personnel, two Parliament Security Service personnel and a gardener were killed.

Five terrorists were also killed.
