PM Modi pays tribute to Sardar Patel on death anniversary
A barrister by profession, Patel was a founding father of the nation.
"Tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on his Punya Tithi. India is grateful to him for his role in freedom struggle & decisive leadership," the PM's tweet read.
Hailed as the Iron Man of India, Patel served as the first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of Independent India.
He received the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian award, posthumously, in 1991.
