Srinagar, Dec 16 (IBNS): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti told the new Northern Army Commander Lt. Gen. Devraj Anbu to initiate the people-friendly measures by vacating Tattoo grounds and other areas under the occupation of the army in the Valley.

In his  introductory meeting with Chief Minister , the new Northern Command army who had gone to brief Mehbooba Mufti about the security situation  of the state, was told that alongside the security the army has to play a bigger role of  infusing confidence among the people about their security measures, sources said.

The two  discussed the threat of infiltration from across the border aided and abetted by Pakistani establishments.

But Chief Minister’s thrust was that the army cannot remain in a status quoist mode all the times.

She demanded that the army should reduce its visibility in the civilian areas and vacate all the areas where its presence was not needed, like Tattoo Grounds and  Anantnag .

While she appreciated the army’s  role in containing the situation , but at the same time she asked that the army  should deal with the Kashmir situation in an innovative way in which the alienation is bridged.

She said that the collateral damage should be avoided during anti-militancy operations, and the new dynamics of the situation should be understood and dealt with innovative measures wherein the general public is not put in harm’s way

However, an official release said that the Chief Minister  advised Lt. Gen. Anbu to ensure maximum relief to people by the Army in the State.

This was the first meeting of Lt Gen. Anbu after taking over as Northern Command’s Army Commander.
