Opposition trying to protect the dishonest : PM Modi in Kanpur

Kanpur, Dec 19 (IBNS) : Coming down heavily on the Opposition for disrupting Parliamentary proceedings on the demonetisation issue, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday accused them of trying to protect the "dishonest."

"My Government's agenda is to stop corruption and black money. But their agenda is to stop Parliament. They are not allowing Parliament to run for any discussion," Modi said while addressing a 'Parivartan rally' in Kanpur in the run-up to the state assembly elections.

"Woh log beimano ko bachana chahte hai (They want to save those dishonest)," he said.

The Winter Session of Parliament ended without transacting much business as both houses were repeatedly adjourned following ruckus over the note ban issue.

The stalemate was created with the Opposition pressing for a discussion to be followed by vote and the ruling BJP vehemently opposing this.

The PM said the present Government came to power after 20 years of uncertainty when successive coalition regimes witnessed bickering among partners.

"For the first time in 20 years a stable Government has come and right from the day one it has taken measures for the welfare of every segment of soceity-from Dalits to oppressed," Modi said.

He claimed that a wind of change is blowing in Uttar Pradesh and the BJP-led NDA Government is committed to the cause of the poor.

The PM said 65 per cent of the Indian population is below the age of 35 years and with this huge pool of youth the country has the strength to race ahead provided it has the right political direction.
