Hours after Cong defeat in Chandigarh polls, Sidhu meets Rahul Gandhi
The interaction was held just before Gandhi met other party leaders to select candidates for the assembly elections in Punjab.
It also happened on a day when the Congress party suffered a major setback in the municipal elections in Chandigarh.
The party managed to win only four out of 26 seats.
Sidhu had resigned from the Rajya Sabha on July 18 over differences with the BJP party.
Sidhu had been upset with the BJP since 2014, when his parliamentary constituency of Amritsar was assigned to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, who lost the election.
