ED raids arrested hawala trader Parasmal Lodha's office, residence in Kolkata

Kolkata, Dec 27 (IBNS): Days after 60-year-old hawala trader Parasmal Lodha was booked for illegally converting demonetised notes worth Rs. 25 crore into new currency notes, investigators of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday carried out hour-long raids at the residence and office of the senior businessman in Kolkata, officials said.

According to reports, a team of ED searched the office of Lodha's firm- Peerless Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd- at Behala's S.N. Roy Road area in Kolkata and interrogated its staffers there.

Meanwhile, ED's raid at Parasmal Lodha's residence in Kolkata's posh Ballygunge Queens Park Road area, which has started since Tuesday morning, is still underway.

ED officials said that several documents, relating to the currency conversion, were seized during the raids at two premises.

Earlier on Thursday, Parasmal Lodha was arrested by the ED from Mumbai airport, while he was trying to flee to Malaysia, according to reports.
