Put greater emphasis on innovation, India to be among top 3 countries by 2030 : Modi at Indian Science Congress

Tirupati, Jan 3 (IBNS) : Asserting that India will be among top three countries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for greater emphasis on innovation in science and and developing technology in manufacturing sector.

Speaking at the inauguration of the five-day 104th Indian Science Congress at Sri Venkateswara University in Tirupati, Modi said his Government is committed to supporting science.

"By 2030 India will be among the top three countries in the world..science must meet the rising aspirations of the people," he said.

"Develop technology in manufacturing sector...there is need to put greater emphasis on innovation," Modi said, pointing out that translating basic knowledge into innovations, start-ups and industry will help achieve inclusive and sustainable growth.

The PM called upon the country's best science and technology institutions to  strengthen their basic research in line with leading global standards.

"There is a need to develop and exploit these technologies in services and manufacturing sectors," he said.
