Have no dispute with son Akhilesh, will sort out problems : Mulayam Singh after meeting poll panel

New Delhi, Jan 9 (IBNS) : Even amid the thick of factional feud, Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh on Monday said he has no dispute with his son and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and the "problems will be sorted out," reports said.

In what dropped the hint for  a last ditch attempt for rapprochement, the 74-year-old SP patriarch made the statement before media just after he emerged out of the Election Commission office where he went to stake his factions's claim over the party symbol, 'cycle', which the opposite camp tries to grab as well.

"There is no dispute between my son and I. There is some problem in the party, one person is behind this feud; I am sure that matters will be resolved," Mulayam Singh  said.

He was accompanied by brother Shivpal and close aide Amar Singh.

The Akhilesh camp is being led by Mulayam's another sibling, Ram Gopal Yadav, who had  submitted to the Election Commission six boxes of documents to prove that Akhilesh  now heads the state's ruling party.

The Election Commission had given both sides time till January 9 to submit proof of their legislative support.

The Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh  will be held in seven phases between 11 February and 8 March.

On Sunday, Mulayam Singh Yadav asserted that he was still the Samajwadi Party (SP) chief, while Akhilesh Yadav would remain the UP Chief Minister.

He also questioned the legality of the convention called by the  Akhilesh Yadav camp which had declared Akhilesh  the new party chief replacing the father.

"I am the national president of Samajwadi Party and Akhilesh Yadav is (only) the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. Shivpal Yadav is still the president of Samajwadi Party's Uttar Pradesh unit," Mulayam Singh said.
