Kolkata, Jan 10 (IBNS): Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA and party's national spokesperson Mahua Moitra has lodged an FIR against actor-turned-Union Minister Babul Supriyo for allegedly defaming her in a TV chat show, reports said.

According to reports, during a live debate in a privately-run national TV channel on Jan 3, BJP MP of Asansol Lok Sabha constituency, Babul Supriyo, allegedly passed defamatory remarks against Mahua Moitra.

Police officials said that on the next day (Jan 4), Mahua Moitra lodged a complaint against Babul Supriyo at Alipore Police Station in Kolkata.

"The FIR has been lodged against BJP MP under cognizable and bailable IPC section 509 (Word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) and magistrate has recorded the secret statement of Mahua Moitra," a senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.

However, denying the allegation against him, Babul Supriyo claimed that he did not say anything during the show, which could hurt the modesty of Moitra or defame her.
