Kolkata, Jan 11 (IBNS): Demanding immediate reopening of a closed jute mill, its labourers blocked tracks near Kankinara railway station in West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district on Wednesday, reports said.

Due to the three-hour-long blockade, rail services on Sealdah's  main line was disrupted and office-bound commuters suffered a lot, according to reports.

Police from local Jagaddal Police Station and railway police rushed to the spot and the blockade was withdrawn at around 12 45 pm following an assurance from the  jute mill authority that it would reopen on Jan 17.

Eastern Railway reportedly ran trains between Sealdah and Barrackpore stations to handle the situation.

Meanwhile, protesting the installation of a power-grid on farmers' land, local villagers  blocked roads at several points in Bhangar in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district since Wednesday morning.
