Kharagpur shooting: Police detains 5, TMC accuses BJP

Kolkata/Kharagpur, Jan 12 (IBNS): Police on Wednesday midnight detained five people in connection with a deadly shooting in Kharagpur town in West Bengal's West Medinipur district, reports said.

Earlier on Wednesday afternoon, a few miscreants reportedly hurled crude bombs and fired indiscriminately at a Trinamool Congress (TMC) party office in Kharagpur, killing two men, including local TMC leader and rail-mafia A. Srinibasan Naidu alias Srinu Naidu and his close-aide V. Dharma, and leaving three others injured.

Kharagpur Town Police Station detained five people, who are currently being interrogated.

Meanwhile, a local TMC leader has accused BJP for the deadly shootout.

"BJP state president Dilip Ghosh, who is the MLA of Kharagpur, had earlier threatened to kill Srinu Naidu and I think BJP-sheltered miscreants were behind the shooting," TMC leader and chairman of Kharagpur Municipality, Pradip Sarkar alleged.

Denying the allegations against them, BJP national secretary Rahul Sinha told IBNS: "BJP is not habituated to play with bomb-guns like TMC and our party is not involved in this crime, neither directly nor indirectly."

"Who were involved in the shootout will be known when police investigation will be completed," Sinha added.
