Dangal girl Zaira Wasim's Twitter retort to Union Minister
The painting in question was on display at the India Art Festival in Delhi on January 19 showing a girl in hijab, while in the foreground, a young girl sits trapped in a birdcage.
Goel had tweeted: "This painting tells a story similar to Zaira Wasim's. More power to our daughters!"
Not appreciative of the minister's observation, Zaira made a retort on the Twitter : "Women in hijab are beautiful and free... Moreover, the story depicted through the painting is not even remotely relevant to mine."
Goel, however, tried to clarify later that it was not his intention to hurt, and Zaira had misunderstood what he was attempting to say.
"You have interpreted wrong (sic)," the minister wrote on Twitter. "I appreciated your work and stated that evil and patriarchal notions must be discouraged."
The 16-year-old Kashmiri girl made a mark in Aamir Khan’s blockbuster by playing young Geeta Phogat, a common wealth gold medal winner in wrestling.
Zaira Wasim was trolled by the Islamist social media users after she met Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti , and she was forced to apologise.
