We are very proud of rich culture of Tamil Nadu: PM Modi

New Delhi, Jan 21 (IBNS): Amid ongoing protests over Jallikattu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said the Central government is committed to the progress of Tamil Nadu.

"We are very proud of the rich culture of Tamil Nadu. All efforts are being made to fulfil the cultural aspirations of Tamil people," Modi tweeted.

"Central Government is fully committed to the progress of Tamil Nadu & will always work to ensure the state scales new avenues of progress," he said.

The Centre on Friday cleared the ordinance regarding Jallikkattu as proposed by Tamil Nadu government.

Kuldeep Dhatwalia, Additional Director General (Media & Communication - MHA), Press Information Bureau, tweeted: "Centre has cleared the ordinance regarding Jallikkattu as proposed by Tamil Nadu government. @PIB_India."

Tamil Nadu has been witnessing major protest over the issue of Jallikkattu.

The  agitation in favour of the traditional bull taming sport in Tamil Nadu snowballed into a huge upsurge with thousands of people swarming Chennai's Marina beach in recent days.
