Tamil Nadu government clears Jallikattu Ordinance

Chennai, Jan 21 (IBNS): In a major victory for people demonstrating across the state for the past few days, the Tamil Nadu government has cleared Jallikattu Ordinance.

"Jallikattu Ordinance cleared by Tamil Nadu Government #JallikattuTomorrow #TrueTamizhanWin," the AIADMK tweeted.

"Tamil Nadu Governor Vidyasagar Rao approves Jallikattu ordinance - Honourable CM Thiru.O.Panneerselvam," read another tweet.

State Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam will inaugurate Jallikattu at Alanganallur, the AIADMK confirmed.

The party said the bill to replace today's Ordinance will be tabled in the State Assembly on Jan 23 when the first Assembly session begins.

"Honourable CM Thiru O Panneerselvam appeals to students, women and the public to take part in Jallikattu events tomororw in large numbers," read another tweet.

The Centre on Friday cleared the ordinance regarding Jallikkattu as proposed by Tamil Nadu government.

Kuldeep Dhatwalia, Additional Director General (Media & Communication - MHA), Press Information Bureau, tweeted: "Centre has cleared the ordinance regarding Jallikkattu as proposed by Tamil Nadu government. @PIB_India."

Tamil Nadu has been witnessing major protest over the issue of Jallikkattu.

The  agitation in favour of the traditional bull taming sport in Tamil Nadu snowballed into a huge upsurge with thousands of people swarming Chennai's Marina beach in recent days.
