Vice President expresses grief over loss of lives in Andhra Pradesh train accident

New Delhi, Jan 22 (IBNS): Vice President of India M. Hamid Ansari on Sunday expressed grief over loss of lives in the train accident in Andhra Pradesh.


In a message he said that he is deeply grieved and shocked at the tragic loss of life and injuries to passengers resulting from the accident of the Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Express.

"I am deeply grieved and shocked at the tragic loss of life and injuries to passengers resulting from the accident of the Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Express," Anasri said.

"I convey my heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved families and pray to the Almighty to give them strength and fortitude to withstand this immense loss. I also wish speedy recovery to the injured passengers," he said.

The Jagdalpur-Bhubaneswar Express, which derailed close to the  Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, left 36 people killed and injured about 54, media reports said on Sunday.

The accident took place around 11.15 pm on Saturday.

According to reports, nine coaches and the engine of the train derailed close to the Kuneru station when it was on its way towards Odisha's Bhubaneswar city from Jagdalpur.

Two sleeper coaches- S7 and S8- have been badly affected due to the deadly mishap.

Railway's relief teams were rushed to the spot and rescue operation commenced after the incident occurred.
