Jalandhar, Jan 27 (IBNS) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday promised the Punjab farmers water from the Indus, which flows from India to Pakistan, saying the neighbouring country has "no right over this."

Addressing an election rally at Jalandhar, Modi said : "The farmers of Punjab need now worry about water anymore. We have decided to route the water from the Indus, which currently flows into Pakistan, who do not have the right over this, to the farmers of Punjab, who rightfully deserve it."

" Punjab's farmers, India's farmers will get water from India's rivers...We will take back our rightful share of the Indus water and give it to Punjab," the PM said.

Modi was accompanied by Punjab Chief Minister Prakash Singh Badal, whose Shiromani Akali Dal is in alliance with the Bharaiya Janata Party.

Modi asserted that his  his Government is try hard to make the country free from the 70-year legacy of corruption and that despite all criticism  he will continue to  fight for the "poor and the voiceless."

"We are doing all we can to catch and punish the corrupt. We are fighting against the corrupt, for honesty, for transparency.

But this battle cannot be won by the government alone. It cannot be won without your support and blessing."

" I have been harassed and attacked for the last 3 months. But I have not bend down, I will continue fight for the poor and the voiceless,” he said.

“Flip back to newspapers from 2013-14, headlines said how much money was gone, lost to scams. Now newspapers are telling you how much is coming back,” Modi said.

“Some people are not able to digest the fact that their 70 years worth of wealth, gathered from loot, is now withering away,” he said.

In an obvious reference to the Congress, he said "Some people are out to malign the image of the Punjab. Political points are being scored by spoiling the image of Punjab around the world. For the sake of Punjab, punish such people, so that they dare not do this again."

He said the Congress is collapsing all over India.

Calling upon the people to re-elect the ruling coalition, Modi said people want to see Prakash Singh Badal as Chief Minister once again.

Describing Punjab as the land of saints and the brave, the PM said efforts are being made to defame the state  and "they are going to every extent to ruin Punjab's image."
