Kashmir: Two more civilians killed in clashes

Srinagar, Feb 12 (IBNS): At least two civilians were killed during clashes near an encounter site in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district of South Kashmir on Sunday, taking the overall death toll to eight, officials said.

Four militants, two soldiers had already died in the gunfight in Frisal village of Kulgam district earlier on Sunday, triggering protests and clashes.

According to reports, large number of locals assembled near encounter site early morning and start stone pelting on security forces resulting injuries of fifteen persons after forces resorted to firing and shelling to break up protests near the encounter site.

“Twenty injuries arrived at our hospital for treatment in which two succumbs to his injuries as they have abdomen hit by stray bullet,” said senior doctor at District hospital in South Kashmir.

"Four people were referred to Srinagar," doctor said.

Eyewitnesses said that forces fired teargas shells inside the hospital premises to disperse the protesters.
