Guwahati, Feb 16 (IBNS): Assam Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Thursday came to support the girl, who recently posted molestation details on Facebook which sparked across the state.

The Assam Finance Minister said that, the girl did nothing wrong by posting her case of eve-teasing details on social media.

"Our government had not opposed to the idea of posting anything against the government on social media. But we requested the people to inform such type of incidents to police also," Sarma said.

Earlier, the college student of Upper Assam's Jorhat district faced flak from another Assam Minister, who said that the girl was an activist of the Left-wing Students Federation of India (SFI) and ridiculed her for seeking support from public by posting on social media instead of seeking police help.

Himanta Biswa Sarma's comment came to support the molested girl after his colleague Parliamentary Affairs minister Chandra Mohan Patowary criticised the girl.

Thousands of college girl, several woman organizations staged protests and raised their voice against the eve-teasing incidents and demanded to protect women in the state following the Facebook post.

Assam Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary delivered his comment against the Jorhat girl activities in Assam assembly on Feb 13 following the opposition raised the issue.

On the other hand, Opposition leader and Congress legislator Debabrata Saikia on Thursday said that, the BJP-led Assam government is totally failure to protect women in the state.
