Air India lifts flying ban on Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad after Govt intervenes

New Delhi, Apr 7 (IBNS) : Air India on Friday lifted a flying ban imposed on Shiv Sena Lok Sabha member Ravindra Gaikwad for allegedly assaulting a veteran employee of the national carrier, reports said.

The decision came after the Civil Aviation Minister asked  the Air India to withdraw the restrictions on the controversial MP, who on Thursday had regretted the incident and requested to reverse the ban.

Only on Friday, Air India Employees Union asserted that the ban will continue unless the MP tenders unconditional apology.

The Government as well as the Civil Aviation Minister came in for a trouble and was under pressure of the Shiv Sena as the party's MPs kicked up a ruckus in the Lok Sabha on Thursday protesting the flying ban on Gaikwad.

The Shiv Sena MP from Osmanabad was denied permission by Air India and six others airlines  to fly.

AI cancelled his tickets between Mumbai and Delhi booked for April 17 and 24.

Gaikwad had allegedly assaulted an Air India manager on board a flight on March 23.

Gaikwad, who earlier had  admitted on TV having hit the 60-year-old AI employee with his slippers 25 times, claimed in the Lok Sabha on Thursday that he had only "shoved" the man after being abused.
