The two were all cozy in the Iftar Party hosted in the national capital by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi on Sunday as an alliance of Congress, Janata Dal (United) and RJD would fight the polls together.
Sonia Gandhi was seen sharing a table with Lalu Yadav and Sharad Yadav of Janata Dal (United).
At least 10 assembly seats are going to by-elections on Aug 21. The state election in Bihar is in 2015.
While BJP called the alliance a move of desperation, the parties coming together are happy with the arrangements.
"Lalu Prasad Yadav may still get a few seats, but Nitishji will not even open his account," said a caustic BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain.
After the JD(U) licked dust in the last general elections following the severing of ties with BJP in the state, winning only two seats out of 40 Parliamentary seats, Nitish Kumar resigned as the CM.
