Kolkata, Apr 22 (IBNS): Police on Friday late evening caught a youth red handed raping an eight-year-old girl inside a car in south Kolkata's posh Ballygunge Place (East) area, reports said on Saturday.

According to reports, patrolling van of Gariahat Police Station spotted the Alto car, parked at a lonely place near Tagore Park area at around 7:30 pm, and policemen heard a girl's scream from the vehicle.

Then cops apprehended the man, Sk. Firoz Ahmed, and rescued the third-standard girl from the car.

Later at around 8 pm, minor girl's family members lodged an FIR at Gariahat Police Station and the youth was arrested officially.

According to police reports, accused Firoz Ahmed, a resident of city's Palm Avenue area, allegedly lured the girl next door with chocolates and took her to Ballygunge Place (East) area nearby, where he committed the crime.

A police source said that the youth has been charged under several IPC and POSCO Act sections.

"Medical tests of the minor girl have been done and during preliminary interrogation the accused confessed that he had raped the girl," a senior police official told IBNS.

However, the accused was produced in a local court at Alipore on Saturday and was sent to police custody for further investigation.

Meanwhile, another youth, Shyamal Das, was arrested from Kolkata's New Town area on Friday night for allegedly molesting and attempting to rape a fourth-standard student, reports said.
