Chhattisgarh encounter: 24 CRPF jawan dies, several injured

Raipur, Apr 24 (IBNS):At least 24 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed in an encounter with Maoists at Sukma district in Chhattisgarh on Monday, media reports said.

The incident left several others injured, reports said.

The encounter reportedly took place at Sukma district around 12:30 PM, where many CRPF jawans were assisting the road building activities.

According to the version of an injured jawan who was quoted as saying by the media, around 300 naxals attacked them.

The rescue team is still present at the spot where the encounter occurred.

Chief Minister of the state, Raman Singh called an emergency meeting of the state government, keeping an eye on the current situation.

In a tweet, Home minister of India, Rajnath Singh said: "Spoke to MoS Home Shri Hansraj Ahir about the attack in Sukma. Shri Ahir is going to Chhattisgarh to take stock of the situation."
