Telengana, July 30 (IBNS): India’s newest state Telengana suffered the poorest monsoon this year in the country with 101 of reported deaths of farmers who killed themselves in the last two months, media reports said.

The latest of such farmers’ suicide was reported on June 6 when 28-year-old Beeraiah of Telangana’s Medak district had hanged himself from a tree near his house.

Beeraiah was survived by his 24-year-old wife Manjula, two young children Jaswant, 7, and Devender, 5, and his aging father Singaiah, 65.

The grim statistics were revealed in the wake of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for using resources and research to help farmers produce more.

According to reports, Telengana irrigation minister T Harish Rao, however, blamed the authorities from Seemandhra and their system which had neglected the leftover region for decades.

“They never tried to give water to Telangana farmers,” Rao said.
