Kolkata: Truck gets stuck under Tollygunge rail bridge, traffic partly hit
According to reports, the transport truck collided with the railroad bridge's guardrail while attempting to pass underneath at around 4 am.
"The incident took place underneath Tollygunge Rail Bridge area, very close to Tollygunge railway station and Rabindra Sarobar metro station's gate, in early morning and rail bridge's guardrail collapsed due to the crash," a senior official of city police told IBNS.
"As the huge truck got stuck at the accident site, S.P. Mukherjee Road's Tollygunge bound lane was closed to vehicular traffic for few hours and city tram service between Kalighat and Tollygunge was also disrupted," the official added.
Following the incident, fire and emergency services officials, police, Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel and railway's engineers rushed to the scene and rescue operators took hours to recover the stuck vehicle and to make the road free for traffic.
However, no casualty was reported in the incident.
Railway officials said that the incident did not hit train services in that line.
"After examining the scene, our engineers and safety officers confirmed that neither the rail bridge nor the tracks on it damaged due to the accident as the truck did not hit the lying railroad bridge directly," a railway official told IBNS.
"Train service between Tollygunge and Budge Budge (Sealdah-Majherhat-Budge Budge section) was not affected due to the incident," the officer further said.
However, after seizing the truck and booking its driver and helper, local police have started probe into the case.
