West Bengal: TMC activists allegedly attack BJP leaders' convoy in Dinhata

Kolkata, May 13 (IBNS): Convoy of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders Locket Chatterjee and Jayprakash Majumdar was allegedly attacked by Trinamool Congress (TMC) supporters at Bhetaguri area under Dinhata Police Station limits in Cooch Behar district of West Bengal on Saturday afternoon, local media reports said.

The incident reportedly took place at Bhetaguri under Dinhata Police Station of the district.

BJP leaders claimed that several activists of the  state's ruling party vandalized their vehicles and manhandled them when they were going towards Dinhata from Cooch Behar town to meet few of its activists, who were allegedly beaten by TMC supporters.

"Besides showing us black flags and grooms, around 15-20 TMC goons, carrying arms, sticks, iron rods and bricks, suddenly attacked our convoy near Bhetaguri area and they ransacked several cars, bicycles and motorbikes of our convoy and assaulted our activists,"  Locket Chatterjee told IBNS.

"Police force was there behind our convoy, but they did absolutely nothing when we were attacked by the TMC," Chatterjee added.

Meanwhile, denying all allegations, Cooch Behar district president of TMC, Rabindranath Ghosh, said, "BJP's allegation is completely false, rather their activists vandalized our party office at Bhetaguri."

"Their supporters also vandalized several motorcycles, cycles, autorickshaws and e-rickshaws, which were parked near our party office," Ghosh  said.

A  huge police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) have been deployed to the area as the situation remains tense there.
