Pro-Tamil outfit burns Rajnikanth's effigy opposing his entry into politics

Chennai, May 22 (IBNS) : Security has been beefed up around actor Rajinikanth's house at Poes Garden in Chennai after a pro-Tamil outfit on Monday organised an agitation opposing his entry into politics, The Hindu reported.

Tamizhar Munnetra Padai, headed by K. Veeralakshmi, staged the protest near the actor's residence by burning an effigy of Rajnikanth  and shouting slogans against him.

According to reports, more than r 25 protesters were arrested and detained under preventive custody.

Rajinikanth’s statements during a recent meet-and-greet with fans fuelled a years-long speculations about his debut in electoral politics.

“The current political situation is such that the system does not think about the people. It does nothing for them. That has to change,” the actor had said on Friday.
