Election Commission postpones polls of Rajya Sabha for three states

New Delhi, May 22 (IBNS): The Election Commission of India postponed the polls in ten seats of Rajya Sabha for three states, namely, Goa, Gujarat and West Bengal on Monday evening that would fall vacant this year.

In a press release, EC informed that the notice earlier issued on May 16 regarding the polls in RS has been withdrawn while the commission will announce later the programme of the concerned polls.

In one of  the states, West Bengal, the ruling party Trinamool Congress has announced four candidates on Sunday for the polls in the Council of States. The list includes new faces like veteran politician Manas Bhunia and the recently joined TMC leader of Kurseong, Santa Chhetri.

Derek O'Brien and Dola Sen has been retained as the two other faces of TMC in RS, while the supremo Mamata Banerjee is expected to announce her fifth candidate in a while.
