Patna, May 30 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Around 65 percent students have failed the Grade 12 examination conducted by the Bihar School Examination Board, thanks to the harsh measures adopted by the authorities to check rampant use of unfair means in the exam.

The results were declared on Tuesday.

Authorities said of the total of over 1.24 million students who appeared at the examination this year, only 445,546 could clear the test whereas the rest 794,622 failed.

While only 30 percent passed the science stream, a little over 37 percent could emerge successful in arts stream. The commerce students, however, fared a little better with their pass percentage being around 74.

Of the total 646,231 students appearing in science examination, 449,280 failed.

Similarly, a total of 533,915 students had appeared in the arts exam but 330,338 of them failed.

In commerce, however, only a little about 15,000 out of total 60,000 plus failed.

Khushboo Kumari with 86.2 percent marks was declared the topper in science stream while Ganesh Kumar who secured 82.6 percent marks was declared topper in arts stream.

In commerce stream, Priyanshu Jaiswal was announced the topper. He obtained 81.6 percent marks.

The state government has announced to give a reward of Rs 100,000 to toppers from each of the three streams, Rs 75,000 to second toppers and Rs 50,000 to third toppers, apart from laptops.

This year the authorities tightened security around the examination centres and adopted varieties of measures to stop cheating, taking a lesson from last year’s merit scam which earned a huge embarrassment to the government.
