West Bengal government opposes GST bill to roll out in assembly in its present form
Mitra, at a press conference, highlighted the proposals of the Centre to levy GST on items like wigs, shoes and vernacular films as the sole reason for the opposition and also ensured that he would take up the matter in the next GST Council meet.
"I shall also highlight that there are major objections from different sectors of the state to rolling out GST from July 1. The services sector is against it," Mitra added.
While all four bills had already been passed by the parliament in the last Budget session, all the states of the country are yet to pass the state-GST.
22 states have so far rolled out S-GST bill in their respective assemblies.
GST will roll out from July 1.
Mitra's words stands to be contradictory as the WB CM Mamata Banerjee has earlier in an interview to a news channel, stated that her government will fulfill the promises made on GST.
