Model Sonika Chauhan's death: Actor Vikram Chatterjee charged with culpable homicide
According to reports, an Investigating Officer (IO) from Tollygunge Police Station appealed to a city court at Alipore to slap non-bailable IPC section 304 (Culpable homicide not amounting to murder) on Vikram Chatterjee in connection with their ongoing probe into the death of model Sonika Chauhan.
However, Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) of Alipore Sessions Court, Sougata Roy Choudhury, approved the plea.
Earlier on Apr 29, Sonika Chauhan was killed and Vikram Chatterjee was seriously injured after their speeding sedan, which was being driven by Vikram that day, lost its control and crashed into a pavement near Lake Mall in south Kolkata's Rash Behari Avenue area.
After beginning probe into the matter, police charged Vikram under several bailable sections, including IPC 304A (Causing death by negligence), and quizzed the actor for hours twice.
Vikram, however, surrendered before a local court and he was granted bail in the case as all sections against him was bailable earlier.
Few of his friends were also questioned by the police while few eyewitnesses recorded their secret testimonies before Alipore court.
However, city police officials have not disclosed their next step(s) against Vikram Chatterjee in the case yet.
