Mubeen Ahmed (26), who recently finished his masters degree in the US, is working at a departmental store where he was attacked by few men demanding certain amount of money and his mobile phone.
His uncle Mufti Aslam Osman told Hindustan Times that one of the attackers opened fire at him when the argument was going on.
Mubeen had been immediately taken to Eden Medical Centre in Castro Vallley. His present health condition is critical as he received bullets in his liver and stomach.
He completed his B-Tech in electronic and communication engineering from the state of Telangana and then went to the US to complete his master's degree.
The victim's father Mujeeb Ahmed, who works in a military institution of Secunderabad will be going to the US to visit his son, in few days time.
The incident of California is a continuation of the attacks brought against Indians of late on the foreign soil in recent times, starting from the Kansas shooting.
Apart from the US, several Indians were also attacked in other parts of the world as well. Latest is the incident which took place against a cab driver in Tasmania.
An Indian origin cab driver was attacked in an island state of South coast of Australia, Tasmania, by a couple after warning the latter for ruining the cab.
He was also verbally abused and said: "You f*****g Indian, you deserve it."
In late March, an Indian man was assaulted by a group of teenagers in Melbourne who had also hurled racial attacks on him.
