West Bengal: Several fall sick after having 'prasad' in Nadia

Kolkata, Jun 10 (IBNS): At least 115 devotees, including several women and children, fell ill after consuming 'prasad' of a puja at Nakashipara area in Nadia district of West Bengal on Friday, reports said on Saturday.

According to reports, a local man organized puja at his house on Friday evening and distributed 'prasad' to the local villagers, who gathered there.

Few hours after eating the prasad, local villagers and family members of the host complained of loose motion, nausea, head ache, stomach pain and fever symptoms and over 50 of them were admitted to local hospital as their conditions deteriorated.

Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH) of Nadia district, Tapas Roy, told IBNS, "Over 100 persons, including women and children, complained of sickness after consuming contaminated prasad at Nakashipara block area."

"Our medical teams rushed to the area and held camp there to treat the ill people, Roy added.
