NE states-West Bengal police to set up NEPOL in the lines of Interpol
Assam police ADGP (Special Branch) Pallav Bhattacharya said that, Assam police has proposed to set up NEPOL and it will be placed during the two-day meet of DGP, IGP of all north eastern states and West Bengal to kick start from June 29.
“The north eastern region has shared around 5500 km international border with China, Myanmar, Bangladesh, Bhutan and the region facing several problems including insurgency, smuggling, illegal trades etc. To tackle these problems it is necessary to set up a new police organization for the region to facilitate coordination between the states,” Bhattacharya said.
“We will place it before the meet and seeking support from other states. We will also send it to the Union government,” the top Assam cops said.
The two-day 24th conference of DGP, IGP of north east states and West Bengal will be held at Assam Administrative Staff College in Guwahati.
The DGP, IGP of all nine state and DGs, IGs of central police organization will take part in the conference.
Pallav Bhattacharya also said that, several issues including counter insurgency, border management, cyber attacks and Cyberdome set up will also to be discussed during the meet.
Cyberdome, the hi-tech centre for cyber security, will be launched in Assam shortly and the state government has already announced it in the state budget for 2017-18.
“The conference will deliberate on intelligence sharing mechanism, cross bordering crimes, improving crime conviction rates etc,” the top Assam cops said.
