China warns India it'll support Sikkim's independence

New Delhi, Jul 6 (IBNS): Chinese state media has warned India that the former will support Sikkim's independence call if the latter does not back down in the border dispute, reports said.

"Beijing should reconsider its stance over the Sikkim issue," an editorial in the Global Times read.

The editorial has said that Beijing should make India pay for its provocations.

"Although China recognized India's annexation of Sikkim in 2003 [Sikkim became an Indian state on May 16, 1975], it can readjust its stance on the matter. There are those in Sikkim that cherish its history as a separate state, and they are sensitive to how the outside world views the Sikkim issue," the editorial read.

The editorial said that the Communist regime should fuel Sikkim's demands by raising 'pro-independence appeals' in the region.

"As long as there are voices in Chinese society supporting Sikkim's independence, the voices will spread and fuel pro-independence appeals in Sikkim," read the editorial.

The editorial also came down hard on India's Bhutan stance, blaming the former for manipulating and controlling the latter.

"India has startling control and oppression over Bhutan, and as a result, Bhutan has not established diplomatic ties with its neighbour China or any other permanent member of the UN Security Council. Through unequal treaties, India has severely jeopardized Bhutan's diplomatic sovereignty and controls its national defense," it said.

"New Delhi's regional hegemony is boldly shown by the border face-off this time. Using the excuse of 'helping Bhutan protect its sovereignty,' India brazenly obstructs China's road construction in Chinese territory,' it added.

The editorial urged the Chinese government to lead the international community in restoring Bhutan's sovereignty.

"China should lead the international community in restoring Bhutan's diplomatic and defense sovereignty. Unfair treaties between India and Bhutan that severely violate the will of the Bhutanese people should be abolished," the editorial read.
