New Delhi, July 20 (IBNS): After losing the Presidential battle to Ram Nath Kovind, Opposition's candidate Meira Kumar said on Thursday that the fight for the ideology and values will continue.

NDA-backed nominee Ram Nath Kovind swept the Presidential poll by bagging 66% of the total valid electoral votes, to assume office soon as the 14th President of India.

Kumar, who was supported by 17 political parties across the country, could manage to get 3,67,314 of the total number of votes polled.

Wishing the winning candidate, Meira said Kovind is becoming the President of the country at a very challenging time.

The presidential poll turned out to be a battle between two Dalits, Ram Nath Kovind and Meira Kumar.

During the campaigns of the Presidential poll, Meira termed the battle as "an ideological fight".

Meira, who is also a lawyer, served as the Lok Sabha speaker during UPA regime.

The former Lok Sabha speaker said she would continue the ideological fight as lots of people of India believe  in it and strengthen her.

"The fight will continue for social justice, secularism, freedom of press, freedom of speech and self expression, eradication of casteism" she said.

Kovind, who comes from Uttar Pradesh, became the second Dalit President of India after K R Narayanan.
